Well, I guess I picked a good week to give up gambling.
For those of you who followed my Week 1 picks to the letter, hope you gave it up, too – or better yet, never started.
Let’s start with the good news: If you just bet my “teaser” plays (multi-team bets where you add an extra six points to the line), then your money was never in doubt as the Cincinnati Bengals (-3) blew out the Oakland Raiders, 33-13, and the J-E-T-S, well, you know how that one turned out.

But rigorous honesty dictates that I point out that my straight picks finished 1-3 on the weekend. (I did hit the exacta on Pats-Steelers, but can’t count that one for Dawg Pound Daily purposes.)

Here’s how the rest of the weekend went:
- Tennessee was getting three points and rolled over Tampa Bay, 42-14, again proving my “always bet against bad teams when favored” theory. BTW – the Browns get to see those same formerly feckless Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m. and the Browns have opened as favorites!
- Chicago (+6.5) was leading for most of the game, but Green Bay managed to just cover, 31-23.
- Washington’s league-worst special teams contributed to the team, which was getting four points against Miami, losing to the Dolphins, 17-10, thanks to a punt return touchdown.
- I was right about Peyton Manning not being right, but why can’t Joe Flacco throw those interceptions against Cleveland? The Ravens, getting four-and-a-half, lose, 19-13.
But just like head coach Mike Pettine, I’m promising a better showing in Week 2.
Look for this week’s picks – at your own risk – before the Thursday night game between Denver and Kansas City. I will be traveling to Cleveland for the home opener as I’ve been selected for some season ticket holder honor.
Although just buying them year after year ought to qualify me for a Lifetime Masochism Achievement Award.
