Spanning the virtual globe to bring you the latest news about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL – these are your Daily Dawg Tags for Thursday, Sept. 24.

Cleveland Browns:

Mike Pettine made the only choice he could at QB:

"While Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine holds an economics degree, he is clearly a student of history, especially as it pertains to the team’s quarterback situation. Pettine made the announcement that Josh McCown has been cleared to resume practicing after suffering a concussion, and that Johnny Manziel will be returning to his backup role. Just the way the team has always intended it to be."

Travis Benjamin earns AFC honors:

"It was announced on Wednesday that Travis Benjamin earned AFC Special Teams player of the week honors after his performance in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans."

Josh McCown did nothing to lose starting job:

"It is hard not to get excited when Johnny Manziel is throwing touchdown passes, not turning over the ball, and winning games. Well I should say, winning a game. The season is still young yet there are already constant debates of who should start at quarterback for the Browns. Now that Josh McCown has been cleared to play and has been named the starter, the debates will only grow louder."

Browns vs. Raiders: Wednesday’s injury report:

"The initial injury report is out for the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders for Sunday’s home game at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns have nine players on the injury report, starting with defensive end Desmond Bryant, who did not practice on Wednesday because of a shoulder injury."

Browns are correct to name Josh McCown the starter (NFL Spin Zone):

"The move back to Josh McCown has caused an outrage among both Browns fans as well as critics on the national stage as they want to see Johnny Manziel’s exciting style of football. But Mike Pettine and the Cleveland Browns made the right decision to go back to McCown at this stage of the season."

Johnny Manziel not where coaches want him to be (ESPN):

"Johnny Manziel is not there yet. He’s closer than he was, but in the eyes of the coaches he’s still not there when it comes to being the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback."

Mike Pettine makes logical choice in starting Josh McCown (NEOMG):

"Mike Pettine isn’t paid to make popular decisions, but ones he believes give the Browns the best chance at winning each week."

NFL News:

Raiders on the rise, but defense needs change (Just Blog Baby):

"The Oakland Raiders are now on the up-and-up after a huge win at home against the Baltimore Ravens. But the Raiders can improve their defense along with their chances at making a run this season."

Brandon Weeden’s success tied to running game (The Landry Hat):

"There is a way that the Cowboys can get it done with Brandon Weeden at quarterback."

Kam Chancellor returns to Seahawks (12th Man Rising):

"With Kam Chancellor back with Seattle, the 2015 NFL season has changed for the better for the Seahawks."
