Browns vs. Chargers: Revisiting a Browns win in 2012

Remember when Trent Richardson was running all over opposing defenses?

You probably don’t because he has fallen into the realm of obscurity in the cruel world that is the NFL.

But in 2012, Richardson was a somewhat competent running back who put up 950 yards and scored 11 touchdowns for a team that won five games with Brandon Weeden as the quarterback.

The Browns headed into Week 8 with a record of 1-6, and had a matchup at home against Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers. With a season that was already lost since the draft, the teams took the field amongst high winds and constant rain that is associated with playing a few hundred feet from a giant body of water.

The Chargers got the ball to begin the game and made it all the way to the Browns 30-yard-line before turning it over on downs.

Enter Weeden and Richardson, who led a 70-yard touchdown drive finished off with a 26-yard touchdown run by the former third overall pick.

There is not much else to that game as it turned into a punting party, with a combined 15 punts in the game.

The Chargers only managed to score six points and lost a game they should have won. Sounds like how it will feel if they lose this Sunday.

This exclusive HD video shows how the game ended, along with a dejected Philip Rivers, who seems to be angry a majority of the time.

The main story from the game was the play of Trent Richardson. He put up a then career-high 122 rushing yards. This seemed to be the beginning of great play from the player the Browns invested so much in. He even came out the next week and ran for 105 yards against the Ravens.

His career high still sits at 122 yards.

It is always nice to look back at a Browns victory from the past, but there is always something to ruin the feeling of minuscule happiness. Seeing how well Richardson played, only to see him get traded away and fall out of the NFL is a sad reminder of the way the Browns have drafted since coming back in 1999.

Seeing Weeden’s name gives the same feeling, but he never exactly played well. That is, not until he got to Dallas and was hailed as competent by the

philandering

evil Jerry Jones.

The Browns head to San Diego this Sunday with a group of running backs who have put up bad numbers, but who have also not been given many opportunities to carry the ball.

A 122-yard game from Isaiah Crowell or Duke Johnson Jr. would be a great way to get the offense balanced, and also make Philip Rivers storm off the field. Because there is nothing more hilarious than an angry Philip Rivers.

He doesn’t even spell his name right.
