Lost amid the shock and awe of quarterback Josh McCown‘s performance in helping to lead the Cleveland Browns past the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday was that McCown injured his ankle in overtime.

McCown hurt the ankle when a player rolled up on him while he was completing a pass to tight end Jim Dray.

“We’ll just keep getting treatment and see how it goes, but like I said, the ankle feels good, and I’m hopeful and planning on being able to play and all that stuff,” McCown said, according to Ohio.com. “So we’ll see as we move forward, and I’ll let coach comment on injuries as we move forward.”

“Josh’s ankle is sore, but at this point, we don’t think it’s anything that’s going to force him to miss any time.” – Head coach Mike Pettine

Leave it to the Browns to finally have the offense on a roll – the team currently sits eighth overall in the NFL’s offensive rankings – only to possibly lose McCown to an ankle injury.

It is only Monday, however, and head coach Mike Pettine said the team is going to enter preparations for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos fully expecting McCown to be under center.

“Josh’s ankle is sore, but at this point, we don’t think it’s anything that’s going to force him to miss any time,” Pettine said. “If we have to give him a day off, we will. But we’ll know more as we get towards Wednesday.”

While the Browns are expecting McCown to play against the Broncos, they will be without cornerback Joe Haden and linebacker Scott Solomon.

Haden, who was already dealing with injuries to his ribs and thumb, suffered a concussion against the Ravens and is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol, which all but guarantees he will miss at least the Denver game.

Solomon, who returned to the field for the first time since suffering an injury in the season-opener against the New York Jets, injured his knee against Baltimore and is expected to be out for “some time,” according to Pettine.

The Browns are going to need all the help they can get against Denver as they have lost 21 of the past 23 meetings between the two clubs and have only beaten the Broncos twice since 1974.

“When you’re sitting at 2-3, you’re looking for everything you can to give you momentum,” McCown told NEOMG.  “We’ve got a tough stretch coming. There’s a very good, obviously, Denver defense and Denver football team coming to Cleveland. We need all hands on deck, we need everybody to come and make that as rowdy and as tough a place to play as we can. And we’ve got to go out and get after them.”
