The Cleveland Browns placed linebacker Scott Solomon on injured reserve Wednesday.
In a corresponding move, the club claimed defensive back Don Jones off waivers from New Orleans.
Both transactions were announced on the team’s website.
It is a disappointing end to a frustrating season for Solomon, who injured an ankle in the first quarter of the season opener against the New York Jets. He made it back to the field last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, only to injure his knee.
Solomon was touted throughout training camp by the coaching staff.
“He’s really picked up where he left off from an effort and a mentality standpoint,” head coach Mike Pettine said in August. “We talked about the ‘Play Like a Brown’ attributes, and he fits them all. What separates him this year where we feel like he’s even better is that he’s gone through a spring in our system. He’s going through a training camp in our system.
“His knowledge base and experience in what we do is so much more this year. That’s why we’re very optimistic about Scott.”
Nicknamed “Bloodbath,” Solomon also earned the respect of his teammates since joining the Browns late in the 2014 season.

“What really drives an offensive lineman nuts is a guy who takes three plays off and then turns it on and makes you look stupid,” guard John Greco told NEOMG in June. “(Solomon) can do that on any play. You know what you are going to get and you know you better have your chinstrap buckled.”
The 26-year-old Solomon was drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He played 13 games as a rookie, but then played just nine games over two seasons with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay. He joined the Browns in December of last year.
As for Jones, the 5-foot-11, 195-pounder was a seventh-round selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Arkansas State. He has played in 34 games – five of which were with the Saints this season – and has 23 career special teams tackles.
