Will the Cleveland Browns win again this season?

Remember when you looked at the NFL standings last November and the Cleveland Browns were 7-4? Five straight losses followed, but at least there was that hope of a playoff berth.

Things are a bit different this year as the Browns are currently 2-6 with a matchup against the undefeated Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday. The chances of winning have to be close to Dwayne Bowe‘s receiving yard total this season.

Zero, in case you forgot.

In a different world, the Browns would only be one game back in the AFC South, but geography limits such a possibility.

But back to the schedule and the impending pain that will likely follow in the next eight games.

Start with the next opponent, the Bengals. The Browns still have to play them twice, Thursday and Dec. 4. In fact, the next four games for the Browns come against divisional opponents.

Unless Johnny Manziel comes in and ignites this team, the chances against the Bengals are pretty slim, especially with a depleted secondary on Thursday.

Then comes two games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, including the seemingly annual Week 17 matchup against the divisional rival, which fans in Pittsburgh likely mark as a sure win each season.

A small piece of me wants to believe that the Browns stand a chance against the Baltimore Ravens at home on Monday Night Football at the end of the month, but that does not seem like a realistic possibility based on the way the Browns have been unable to finish games this season.

A 20-10 halftime lead was squandered just days ago, and an inability to overcome the Denver Broncos in overtime seemed to be the early end to the still young 2015 season.

After the four straight games against AFC North opponents, the San Francisco 49ers come to Cleveland in Week 14. Along with the game against the Ravens, this presents a real opportunity for a victory.

The 49ers are also 2-6, and have benched Colin Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert. That’s a funny sentence if you take the time to read it over again.

After that comes a game in Seattle, so back to the Bowe odds again.

The last two games of the season are against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Steelers respectively.

The Chiefs started 1-5, but have won two games in a row, including one against the Steelers. (See “Bowe odds” in above paragraph for odds of winning either game).

2-6 is likely to become 2-7 during a week when one of the best players in franchise history, Joe Thomas, was nearly traded for draft picks.

Ray Farmer does not seem to have much of an idea how to run an NFL franchise, leaving fans as the biggest losers in 2015.
