Austin Davis will get the start today as the Cleveland Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Cleveland Browns face the Cincinnati Bengals today in the second of three consecutive home games for the Browns.

The Browns will have to go a long way to top the … excitement? despair? … of their last home game, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens on a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown on the game’s final play.

“The one thing about this team is I think it’s a resilient group. I think we all had a tough time getting out of bed the next day, but that’s life in the NFL,” head coach Mike Pettine said. “You have to be able to – I use the word ‘compartmentalize’ in here all the time. This was as big of a test of our ability to do that than any, but we always say it doesn’t matter what happened the week before, good or bad.

“We rely heavily on our guys’ competitiveness, resilience and professionalism. ‘Listen, I’m getting paid to do a job and I have to be on to the next one.’”

With quarterback Josh McCown done for the season with a broken collarbone, the Browns will turn to Austin Davis in the starting role today.

“For me personally, I hate feeling unprepared for anything, especially being a quarterback on an NFL football team” Davis said. “I feel like there are so many people that are counting on you and looking at you to play well. The fact of letting people down bothers me. I think that is where it comes from. I think is where the hard work and the prep comes from. I just think it is a big responsibility.”

It will be interesting to see how Davis performs against the Bengals. The last two times Cleveland played Cincinnati, Johnny Manziel was the starting quarterback and put up 10 points combined in the two games. (Are we allowed to point that out? Seems kind of important.)
