Cleveland Browns defensive back Joe Haden will miss the remainder of this season after being placed on Injured Reserve.

Multiple sources have reported that the Cleveland Browns have placed Joe Haden on Injured Reserve, effectively ending an injury-plagued season. Haden suffered two concussions this season, and only played in five games this season.

Shutting Haden down is a great move on the part of the Browns. If this were any other type of injury, an attempt to bring him back to end the season would be acceptable. But concussions should not be taken lightly. One is bad enough, but two in the same season is potentially life-altering.

It would be nice to see teams put more players who have suffered concussions on IR, as the individual lives of players should be focused on before on-field results.

This has to be a frustrating year for Haden, whose absence is a visible detriment to this Browns defense. Haden’s absence led to Justin Gilbert filling in, only to follow in Haden’s path and suffer a concussion. Now it is up to rookie Charles Gaines to step in and do his best Joe Haden impression for the rest of the season.

One can wonder if Haden being healthy would have made a great difference this season, although he may not have helped much with the atrocious run defense. He is a great piece, but it is tough for one person out of 11 to make much of a difference, unless your name is Watt.

In other Haden news, a fun, fake “controversy” broke today before the injury news came out and it involved a video, now known to be old, of Haden dunking a basketball. Most viewers would just watch and say ‘that’s cool,’ but Browns fans are not a part of that group.

Outrage was the emotion of choice for some as the few conspiracy theorists believed Haden was healthy enough to play and this video showed it, but alas it is old and energy was wasted on a non-issue.
