The Cleveland Browns, who are short at wide receiver, signed Rannell Hall from Tampa Bay’s practice squad.

Lost a little bit in the news on Monday that the Cleveland Browns were placing cornerback Joe Haden on season-ending injured reserve was the announcement that the club signed wide receiver Rannell Hall.

Hall, a 6-foot, 200-pound rookie from Central Florida, spent eight weeks on Tampa Bay’s practice squad after signing with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. He appeared in 49 games for the Knights, totaling 145 receptions for 2,051 yards and nine touchdowns.

He appeared in the final three preseason friendlies for the Buccaneers, earning a start in the preseason matchup against Miami. He had eight receptions for 104 yards in the preseason, including two catches for 16 yards against the Browns.

His best collegiate season was his junior year, when he caught 57 passes for 886 yards and five touchdowns from current Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles.

His production dropped as a senior, as he only had 49 receptions for 500 yards and did not catch a touchdown pass, although part of that can be attributed to him missing three games with injuries.

The Knights moved Hall around his senior year as well, as he played both out wide opposite Breshad Perriman, in the slot and even lined up in the backfield.

According to his NFL.com draft profile, Hall:

"Isn’t going to get teams excited with his size, play speed or hands, but he’s willing to do whatever is asked of him and flashes enough potential to be viewed as a developmental prospect."

Hall did catch the eyes of scouts during the Senior Bowl, with CBS Sports writing that:

"Hall showed terrific body control to adjust over Oregon State CB Steven Nelson to haul in a 32-yard pass in the third quarter. This wasn’t the case of one splashy play getting Hall attention, though. He made some terrific catches throughout the week, showing excellent timing, positioning and concentration to make contested grabs."

With Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel still battling back from concussions, Dwayne Bowe being a weekly inactive, Brian Hartline done for the year with a broken collarbone, and Terrelle Pryor not being an NFL player, it probably shouldn’t surprise anyone to see Hall on the field this Sunday when the Browns travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks.
