Johnny Manziel failed to attend a required meeting Sunday morning on a day of great change for the Cleveland Browns.

A 3-13 season is bad enough. Add in the firing of both Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer and the Cleveland Browns are going in reverse. The loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers seems like an afterthought at this point.

The latest news concerning the Browns is about the team’s most infamous player. Make that ex-player.

No one knew where Johnny Manziel was Saturday night. Reports came that he was in Las Vegas, while Manziel claimed he was at home in Avon, Ohio. Looks like he fooled us all.

Peter King reported earlier tonight on the circus surrounding Johnny Football.

There is nothing to say at this point. Manziel is impossible to defend and has lost the right to be defended by anyone.

This type of behavior would usually mean the player in question would not find another job in the NFL. However, Manziel is lucky because Jerry Jones does not care about a player’s character. He will jump at the chance to sign Manziel, or acquire him in a trade.

Manziel’s behavior did nothing to help Pettine keep his job, as Haslam could cite his lack of control over the team, even though it is clear Pettine has nothing to do with Manziel’s antics. If anything, Farmer should have dealt with the situation. Or never drafted Manziel in the first place, but that one may lie on Haslam himself.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Just a week ago, Manziel seemed to be the team’s starting quarterback heading into 2016. That was if Pettine and his staff remained but, as is always the case with the Browns, things unraveled fast.

First, Manziel was placed in the concussion protocol midweek, after playing the entire game last Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Then reports came out about Pettine and Farmer being guys who would be unemployed come the end of the game against the Steelers.

Finally, Manziel may or may not have been in Las Vegas the night before a game. Even if he was at home in Avon, which he most likely wasn’t, missing his required meeting is enough to show that he has to go.

Next: Cleveland Browns fire head coach Mike Pettine

The team’s best option at this point is to go into the offseason with Josh McCown as the starter. He gives the offense a sense of stability on the NFL’s most unstable franchise. And the lack of stability may continue as long as Haslam owns this team.
