Long time running backs coach Kirby Wilson will be joining the Cleveland Browns as the running game coordinator.

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson will not be hiring an offensive coordinator, but he added a talented individual to his staff today.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that Minnesota Vikings running backs coach Kirby Wilson will be leaving Minnesota to join Jackson’s staff in Cleveland.

Wilson will assume the role of run game coordinator, which shows that Jackson is wasting no time assembling a talented staff of individuals. Coaching Adrian Peterson is more than most running backs coaches in the NFL can boast.

Wilson has previously served as the running backs coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins and New England Patriots, along with several coaching stints at the collegiate level.

After coaching Peterson to 1,485 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, Wilson will take over a group that was nonexistent for much of the 2015 season.

Thanks to a few decent performances against bad opponents, the Browns rush offense did manage to rank 22nd overall in rushing yards during the regular season, although the group only managed five touchdowns all season.

Isaiah Crowell scored four of those touchdowns, and led the way with 706 yards. Duke Johnson Jr. was next with 379 yards, but he emerged as more of a threat in the passing game, finishing as the third receiver in terms of yards.

Wilson should be able to help the production in the running game, but that is also dependent on how the line performs, and if Joe Thomas and Alex Mack are still members of the team next season.

This will also be one of the most important drafts in franchise history, so it is nice to see the offseason get off to a strong start.
