Gary Barnidge

Age: 30

Experience: 8 years

Contract status: Free agent in 2019

At 30 years young Barnidge had a huge breakout season. The Browns let tight end Jordan Cameron walk in free agency, which opened the door for the emergence of Barnidge. Barnidge was the Browns most consistent offensive player as was a huge weapon in the red zone. Barnidge had a career year as he lead the team in receiving yards with 1,043 and had 9 touchdowns.

With nine touchdowns Barnidge tied hall of famer Ozzie Newsome with the most tight end touchdowns in a single season. With his impressive season Barnidge was named to his first pro bowl. Barnidge was also praised for his work ethic and service in the community as he has been named a finalist for the Walter Payton man of the year award.

2015 stats:

Barnidge finished with 79 receptions for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns.

2016 Outlook:

Barnidge solidified his role as being the go to man in the Browns offense with his big frame and consistent hands. Under coach Jackson, Barnidge will have another big season looming as he will be used in a similar role to Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert who had 13 touchdowns under Jackson’s play calling.

Barnidge’s record-breaking season came out of nowhere and become one the teams only true offensive threats. Barnidge’s emergence solidified the Browns tight end spot for the reasonable future as the Browns rewarded his season with a contract extension before season’s end.

Jim Dray

Age: 29

Experience: 6 years

Contract status: Free agent in 2017

Dray served as the teams blocking tight end working in two tight end formations, goal line and run heavy sets. Dray only caught six passes on the season but had a productive season doing the role in asked of him.

2015 stats:

Dray finished with six catches for 61 yards.

2016 Outlook:

Dray will likely be asked to resume the role of being primarily a blocking tight end. Dray will be needed, as Hue Jackson will focus on having a strong run game.

The veteran Dray simply did what was asked of him in the Browns offense making positive contributions.
