Cleveland Browns: 10 players to look at in free agency
By Thomas Moore
The Cleveland Browns struggled with their place kicking game in 2015 after turning the job over to rookie Travis Coons.
While he was accurate, converting 22-of-24 extra points and 28-of-32 field goals, Coons’ weak leg was a big part of his four blocked kicks and resulted in him having just 27 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker has no such trouble, as in 2015 he was 29-of-30 on field goals of less than 50 yards, was fourth in the league with 63 touchbacks, and has yet to miss an extra point in his four-year NFL career.
Signing Tucker away from the Ravens would not only bolster the Browns kicking game, but would take an asset away from the Ravens, who may have to turn their attention to other free agents and risk losing Tucker.
There are reports that say the Ravens will simply use the franchise tag on Tucker, at a cost of $4.5 million, but for a club that may only have between $5 million and $9 million in salary cap space, that could be a big pill to swallow.
