Cleveland Browns: New front office must be given time
The Cleveland Browns are in a state of transition and the new front office members must be given time before facing criticism.
The Cleveland Browns have done many things since 1999, and losing football games is one thing that seems to happen more than anything else.
The new members of the front office are well aware of the lack of wins, which is why new strategies have been sought out.
The release of Donte Whitner this past weekend was another in a string of moves that sees talented players leave the Cleveland Browns, whether by lack of pursuance by the front office or by simply, as in Whitner’s case, releasing the player.
Whitner suffered, or was gifted, the same fate as Karlos Dansby, who was released by the Browns, only to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals, ensuring he will still play at least one game in Cleveland in 2016.
Whitner was not too happy about being let go and referenced the new “Moneyball” approach being undertaken by the front office.
This will likely become a common complaint from fans too, but the front office must be given some time before judgments can be made. The focus on so-called “Moneyball” decisions will be a moniker given to any trade, release, draft pick, or signing now that Paul DePodesta is in the front office. Sashi Brown’s admiration of analytics will also be mentioned often.
But those who have a dislike for analytics should not be freaking out just yet. The Browns are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. Now that is just a projection, but rebuilds are not completed in one season. It may take several years before the Browns have a winning season, which would be the team’s first since 2007.

That statement alone should be enough proof that time must be given to this new regime. They are not responsible for the mistakes of the past, so any frustration should be directed toward Jimmy Haslam and his less-than-desirable hires since he became owner.
Being a Browns fan and being told to be patient are two things that do not go together well, but there is no other option at this point. This does not mean fans must blindly trust this new group of decision makers and every move they make, but getting angry before a single game is played will do nothing but waste energy.
