The Cleveland Browns need to find a way to run the ball more consistently. Could Alabama’s Derrick Henry solve the problem come draft weekend?

As much as the Cleveland Browns have struggled to stop the run in recent years, in 2015 they were not much better when it came to running the ball themselves on offense.

And that was before they lost Alex Mack and Mitchell Schwartz in free agency.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Rookie running back Duke Johnson was a blessing in the passing game, pulling in 61 receptions and scoring twice, but struggled to be as dynamic running the ball as he averaged just 3.6 yards per carry. Second-year back Isaiah Crowell was not much better, only gaining 99 more yards than his rookie season despite having more carries and seeing his rushing touchdowns fall from eight to four.

While it may not have been a repeat of 2013, the worst rushing season in franchise history, it wasn’t anything to get excited for a team that needs to run the ball – especially once the cold winds come in off of Lake Erie later in the season.

With the Los Angeles Rams now in possession of the No. 1 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft the Browns, once almost a lock to select at quarterback at No. 2, may be ready to move on to Plan B. And if executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown cannot resist the urge to make a trade and move down in the draft, that plan could point to Alabama running back Derrick Henry, a player tailor-made for the AFC North Division.
