The Cleveland Browns were on the clock with the No. 8 pick, but the team was expected to trade down. And they did just that.

The Browns traded the No. 8 pick with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 15 pick, along with some other picks.

This was a great trade and one that involved giving up little for a decent return. The Browns knew the player they wanted would still be available midway through the first round, so for the price of dropping seven picks and a sixth round pick, the Browns got a third round pick this year along with a second round pick next year. This is huge for a team trying to rebuild through the draft.

The Titans are a team in a similar position, which is why this trade was interesting. The Titans originally held the No. 1 pick while the Browns held No. 2, but both teams traded down in favor of acquiring more picks, as neither was too interested in Carson Wentz or Jared Goff.

The large hauls from the trade allowed both teams to have more flexibility during the draft, which allowed the Titans to trade up to No. 8, while the Browns could make a trade involving picks later on in the draft, or during the season.

The trade allowed the Browns to be in a position to draft someone they wanted all along.
