The Browns were expected to be busy during the first round of the NFL Draft. Few expected the Browns to use the No. 8 pick and go quietly into the night, which turned out to be the correct thinking.

The Browns traded down and took Coleman at No. 15, but it was tough to think that would be the last move of the night.

Paxton Lynch’s name was linked to the Browns leading up to the draft, with the thought process being the Browns would trade down from No. 32 to take Lynch at the end of the first round.

This possibility remained until Sashi Brown came out and put that idea down.

The team’s plans seemed to go against the rumors, and Lynch was selected by the Denver Broncos where he should be able to earn the starting spot over Mark Sanchez.

The Browns were smart to save the draft picks that would have been given up in a trade for Lynch. Griffin and Josh McCown are suitable options at quarterback while this team finds its way and builds up at each position. Using a first round pick on a quarterback and bringing him into this situation would be a bad move and one that could potentially ruin a career. Sound familiar?

There is still the possibility the Browns will take a quarterback Friday, with either the picks they have or by making a trade to acquire the player they want.

The day should be an interesting one given the talent still available on the board.
