The Cleveland Browns added another cornerback by selecting Trey Caldwell from Louisiana-Monroe with the No. 173 overall pick.

The Cleveland Browns closed out their fifth round by selecting cornerback Trey Caldwell from Louisiana-Monroe with the No. 173 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

An honorable mention All-Sun Belt selection in 2015, Caldwell had 52 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, and broke up 10 passes for the WarHawks. For his collegiate career he had 143 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions in four seasons at Louisiana-Monroe.

Caldwell also helped out in the return game as a senior as he had 14 kickoff returns for 323 yards (23.1 yards per return).

According to Pro Football Focus, Caldwell is:

"Another player at only 5-foot-9, Caldwell shows up pretty lightweight on tape. He is often fended off too easily by bigger receivers and can fall off tackles. He does have the speed and quickness to latch on to receivers and prevent separation and had only one game this season in which he allowed more than 37 receiving yards. Caldwell is another player that may have to prove he can play, or move inside at the next level, because the NFL doesn’t trust 5-foot-9 corners outside."

Caldwell is the second defensive back the Browns selected on Saturday, joining TCU’s Derrick Kindred, who was selected at No. 114.

Caldwell joins a crowded cornerback group with the Browns, who have Joe HadenTramon WilliamsK’Waun WilliamsCharles Gaines and Pierre Desir already on the roster, among other players.

Barring any additional trades, the Browns will be back on the clock in the seventh round with their final pick of the draft at No. 223.
