On the final Sunday in October of the 1950 season, the Browns rolled up 338 rushing yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Marion Motley’s 188 yards on just 11 carries.

During the 45-7 win in the first home game against their longtime division rivals, the Browns had 533 yards of total offense as they built a 31-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Motley was a force, scoring on a 33-yard pass from Otto Graham and on a 69-yard run against a Steeler defense that had no clue how to stop the Browns high-powered offense.

The win gave the Browns their first season sweep of the Steelers and left the Browns with a 5-2 record as they marched their way to the NFL championship.

The 6-foot-1, 232-pound Motley was the AAFC’s all-time rushing leader and also led the NFL in rushing in 1950. In his nine seasons, he rushed for 4,720 yards and a 5.7 yards-per-carry average.

Motley was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 and was named in 1994 to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.
