The Cleveland Browns take the field tonight against the Green Bay Packers to open the 2016 preseason.

The long wait is nearly over.

The Cleveland Browns will finally be back on a football field for a somewhat competitive game in just one hour as they take on the Green Bay Packers to begin preseason play.

Preseason football is not always the best way to gauge a team’s regular season potential, but it does serve as a dress rehearsal for what is to come. Fans will be able to get a good glimpse at Robert Griffin III and see if he still has what it takes to be an NFL starting quarterback. The key is to not judge every throw he makes in the preseason, but rather see how he progresses throughout the entire slate of preseason games.

He will be throwing to a group of young receivers throughout the preseason, including four drafted rookie wideouts, although first-round pick Corey Coleman will not play tonight due to some hamstring problems. Andrew Hawkins will also be out.

Hue Jackson will likely not show too much of his new playbook, but fans will get a sense of the offense he will be running in Cleveland this year. Let’s just hope Griffin doesn’t end up running the ball at all tonight.

No matter what happens tonight the game is going to have Browns fans talking. The nature of the talk remains to be seen.

We here at Dawg Pound Daily want to keep the conversation going all throughout the night here in the comment thread of this post.
