The Cleveland Browns have lost Rannell Hall for the season after the wide receiver suffered a broken leg on Friday.

The season is over for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Rannell Hall, who suffered a broken fibula in Friday night’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers.

Head coach Hue Jackson confirmed the news earlier this afternoon.

While Hall’s injury was the most serious of the night, wide receiver Terrelle Pryor had an X-ray on his hand and running back Isaiah Crowell had one on his shoulder, with both players checking out fine. Quarterback Austin Davis remains in the concussion protocol after being kneed in the head in the third quarter when he failed to slide on a scramble.

“We had some bumps and bruises in the game,” Jackson told the team’s website. “I think we’ll go back to work with the guys we have and hopefully we’ll get some guys back and keep moving forward.”

It’s a tough blow for Hall, who had two receptions for 27 yards against the Packers, as he was drawing attention from wide receivers coach Al Saunders in training camp – not an easy task with 12 wide receivers on the roster.

“He can see I can make plays, which every receiver can do in the room,” Hall said in June. “Pretty much the main thing he focuses on is giving effort every day. You can’t teach effort. That’s the main thing.”

Hall spent eight weeks on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season before being waived and signed by the Browns. He was on the active roster for the final three games of the season and made his lone appearance in the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Even though he faced long odds to make the final roster, Hall probably did enough in the off-season and training camp to earn another look from the Browns in 2017.
