Reports of Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III filing for divorce should not be of public concern.

The Cleveland Browns are undoubtedly the biggest show in town.

The Cavaliers won a championship and the Indians are in first place, but it will always be a Browns Town until the end of time, or the end of professional football in America.

This means anything related to the Browns is going to be reported upon, even if it doesn’t necessarily pertain to the action on the field.

An article published Tuesday by Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reported that Robert Griffin III is currently filing for divorce from his wife.

The news angle of this seems to be that this could serve as a distraction for the newest Browns starting quarterback. But this is personal information that Griffin would probably like to have been kept private.

This type of information was bound to come out eventually, but it is really has no place in the preseason coverage of the team. Griffin is an NFL quarterback who has gone through his shares of ups and downs on the football field, but focusing on his personal life seems to be a bit of a stretch given his clean history.

When the player in question is taking trips to Vegas and abusing several substances, that is something worth reporting. But a player without character concerns going through a divorce seems to be something better off on the cover of a magazine in the checkout aisle of a local grocery store.

And now that his current situation is public, he will surely be asked about it if he seems to be struggling in 2016, even though it is already expected to be a tough, rebuilding year for the entire team.

There are sure to be struggles, and unfortunately Griffin may have to discuss personal matters when the only thing on his mind is football.
