Cleveland Browns: Week 2 film room session
The Browns led 20-9 with a minute to go before halftime. McCown took a deep chance pushing the ball downfield and threw a costly interception. The turnover gives enough time for Joe Flacco and the Ravens to position themselves for a field goal before halftime to cut their deficit to only eight points.
On the play, the Browns offense is trying to push the ball downfield to set up for their own field goal before halftime. Rookie Rashard Higgins is lined up on the left side and runs a post-corner route on the play. Higgins, along with the other receivers on the play, are well-covered. McCown forces a throw into a tight window, and overthrows Higgins, the ball going into the arms of the high safety coming over in coverage. The interception is a huge momentum swing and allows the Ravens to cut further into the lead before halftime.
The veteran McCown’s biggest strength is also his biggest weakness. McCown gives the Browns the ability to spread the ball out to multiple receivers and push the ball downfield. However, McCown forces the ball into tight windows like on this play, allowing for the game-changing interception.
