Cleveland Browns: Grades from the bizarre defeat in Pittsburgh
Secondary: D
Sometimes, a combination of a lack of talent and bad luck is just too much for a position to overcome no matter how hard they try. For the secondary on Sunday, this was very much the case.
Despite being without Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh made Joe Haden look foolish on Sunday. With missed tackle after missed tackle costing the team late, many wonder whether or not there is even a chance the 27-year-old plays in a Cleveland uniform ever again.
Jamar Taylor and Ed Reynolds were once again relatively solid in coverage, and even found some success in rushing the passer. Unfortunately, the efforts of these two players will be forgotten due to much more significant issues this unit has.
Above all, the misfortune of the secondary can be summed up by Briean Boddy-Calhoun‘s fumble as he was about to score a touchdown. After picking off a Landry Jones pass and taking it back 67 yards the other direction, the 23-year-old couldn’t hang on to give the Browns a 14-point lead. Later in the contest, it was Boddy-Calhoun who surrendered the game winning touchdown to Cobi Hamilton.
