Daily Dawg Tags: Comings and goings on the roster
By Thomas Moore
The Cleveland Browns are entering another offseason of roster turnover as they look to keep Terrelle Pryor and wonder about the future of Josh Gordon.
Roster turnover is common in the NFL, especially for a rebuilding team like the Cleveland Browns.
That will be especially true this offseason as the Browns have considerable assets in terms of cap space and draft picks to use as they continue to reshape the franchise.
One player that will hopefully stick around is wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent come March 9. Pryor has reportedly told his agents to have “strong discussions” with the Browns about working on a new deal to remain with the Browns.
On the other end of the spectrum is wide receiver Josh Gordon, who remains suspended by the NFL.
While far too many Browns fans spend their time dreaming of Gordon returning to the field, the reality is that we are long past seeing Gordon in a Cleveland uniform.
We cover those topics, and more, in today’s edition of the Daily Dawg Tags.
Cleveland Brown news:
Time to accept that Josh Gordon is not coming back
It is unknown who first said “absence makes the heart grow fonder,” but it is a sentiment that many Cleveland Browns can relate to when it comes to wide receiver Josh Gordon. It doesn’t take much for Gordon to get fans swooning over the thought of him once again wearing the Orange and Brown, even a simple Tweet can do it.
Terrelle Pryor should be on the Browns for a long time
The Cleveland Browns have not yet reached a deal with Terrelle Pryor, but fans should expect the two sides to come to a long-term agreement.
Josh McCown: Out of sight, but hopefully not out of mind
The Cleveland Browns released journeyman quarterback Josh McCown last week. In his two-year tenure with the Browns, McCown went an ugly 1-10, but effort was hardly the issue. McCown took a beating as a Browns quarterback, but his impact off the field is what the Browns will miss most.
If Browns believe in Jimmy Garoppolo, they should trade 12th pick to get him (ESPN)
There should be zero hesitation if the Cleveland Browns believe Jimmy Garoppolo is the right quarterback. The team that passed on a shot at Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Wentz, among others, can’t afford to pass on any more shots. The Browns have almost no choice; if they believe Garoppolo can be the guy, they have to trade the 12th pick in the draft to the New England Patriots to get him.

25 big-name NFL players who could get cut in the next month (FTW)
With less than a month before free agency starts, NFL teams will be scrambling over the next few weeks to clear as much cap space as possible. Here are 25 players who could fall victim to a salary dump, in order of how much money their teams would save by making the move.
Salary cap space not a problem for 49ers, Patriots (Sporting News)
The 2016 NFL season is over, which means it’s time to start looking to the 2017 offseason. The NFL estimates the salary cap in 2017 will be between $166 million and $170 million, which means there will be plenty of teams with big cap space in 2017. Using a $168 million salary cap limit, we look at the teams who project to have over $60 million in cap space. Here are those teams and how much cap space they project to have.
8 potential free agents who warrant the franchise tag (PFF)
We’re at a point in the offseason where retaining key free agents becomes a trickier proposition with each passing day. One tool that teams have at their disposal is the franchise tag, allowing them to hold onto one of their players each season using a pre-determined one-year contract based on his position and the number of times he’s previously been franchised. Placing the franchise tag on a player has some risk, as failure to subsequently secure a long-term deal can often lead to a player being disgruntled, holding out, or leaving anyway via trade. Below are eight players who should receive the franchise tag if they are not signed to a long-term deal in the next month.
