Cleveland Browns executive Sashi Brown spoke about suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon on Wednesday. What he actually said depends on what fans want to hear.

Cleveland Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown set Browns fans a flutter on Wednesday at the annual league owners meeting.

It wasn’t the 2017 NFL Draft or the ongoing quarterback situation that fired up the Dawg Pound; rather it was Brown’s comments on the state of wide receiver Josh Gordon, currently under suspension and last seen in a regular season game in 2014.

When asked about the team’s future plans for Gordon, Brown was as ambiguous as he could be, according to ohio.com:

"“Josh, assuming that he’d play at the level we started to see glimpses of last preseason and certainly when he was in the league before, would be a talent I think no team in the NFL would turn down if he got back in. Our decision with Josh is just understanding where he is in his process and being able to add him."

"“But we’re not in a position at wide receiver to turn down a guy like Josh if we feel like he’s settled himself. Now, that’s a separate question, but Josh is going to have an opportunity to reapply to the NFL, and at that time, we’ll make a decision when we know what’s going on.”"

For those fans who choose to ignore that Gordon has only appeared in five of Cleveland’s last 48 games, Brown’s comments were proof positive that Gordon will be welcomed back if the day comes that he is reinstated by the league.

For others, though, it all sounded like the same story from 2014, when Gordon was suspended for 11 games; 2015, when Gordon was suspended for 16 games; and 2016, when Gordon was suspended for the entire season.

No one really knows, maybe not even the Browns themselves, just what the team will do if Gordon is reinstated. Head coach Hue Jackson made it clear that the team had moved on last fall, but time has a way of changing people’s minds.

If he comes back, and if he is committed to his career for the first time since 2013, Gordon can certainly supply the offense with a much-needed boost.

But we’ve all heard that story before, haven’t we?

No rabbits or hats in sight as Browns look to improve QB position (ESPN)

"The Cleveland Browns talk about their quarterback position as if they expect to pull a rabbit out of their hat. They speak of “hopefully” being able to make a trade and continuing to explore every possibility and always trying to get better. But with limited options, a solution would be borderline magical. And there is no magic on the horizon."
