The Cleveland Browns need a quarterback, but they are not selecting one with the first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

One day it is running back Leonard Fournette at the top of the 2017 NFL Draft.

The next it is quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

The season of draft subterfuge is in full swing.

A day after a “report” that the Cleveland Browns would squander the No. 1 overall selection on a running back, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped a Tweet heard all around Dawg Pound Nation:

The Browns need a quarterback, so it is not out of the realm of possibility for another team’s executive to believe that within team headquarters Sashi Brown and Hue Jackson are talking through all their options.

Of course, if these were the old days then the Browns would likely be talking themselves into Trubisky as the No. 1 overall pick.

Thankfully, these are not the “same old Browns,” so lets prepare for Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett to have his name called as the first pick in the draft and then start concentrating on the quarterback position.

Cleveland Browns news:

SB Nation mock draft is questionable when it comes to the Browns

The first round of the NFL Draft has been a dicey proposition for the Cleveland Browns over the years. This year, however, it seems as if the Browns can’t mess things up in the opening round – especially if they select Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett, the draft’s consensus No. 1 overall selection. Dan Kadar at SB Nation rolled out a two-round mock draft on Monday that has a few surprising names on it for the Browns on day two of the draft.

2017 NFL Draft Profile: Jonathan Allen

Adding a player along the defensive line in addition to the selection of Myles Garrett would truly help the Cleveland Browns. Enter Jonathan Allen.

Can the Browns get both Jimmy Garoppolo and Malcolm Butler?

The Cleveland Browns have accumulated a nice stash of draft capital and think they could use it to acquire established talent at positions of need.

Does Marcus Mariota’s success change the scouting of spread QBs? (ESPN)

"As more quarterbacks come into the NFL out of college spread offenses, the league faces a big challenge getting them in position to play as successful pros. The trend is not new, and teams have to bend at least some to accommodate the guys they are bringing in. The clock on quarterbacks coming into the league today dictates that they play quickly and get judged too early."
