Budda Baker is that player that if he were two inches taller he would be a lock for the first round of the NFL Draft. As it is now he still may slip into round one, however with the depth of defense in this draft he will probably be a second-day selection.

Scheme-wise for Gregg Williams and the Browns, Baker has the versatility you want from the position. He can play center field as the single high safety. Budda can line up against the slot receiver and cover, in addition to making big plays. When asked to blitz he can help there as well.

He may struggle if asked to cover tight ends, however that could and should be helped by Williams’ ability of playing to his players’ strengths while limiting their deficiencies.

The Browns own the first pick of the second round, No. 33 overall in addition to the No. 52 overall pick. Adding a player of Baker’s talents would not only fill a need, but he could be the starting free safety for the next decade. He makes plays all over the field. He never looks intimidated. In conclusion, he is an NFL player in the mold of former Colt, Bob Sanders.

In short, Baker to the Browns could provide not only a great playmaker in the secondary but also good karma, pun intended.
