Cleveland Browns select DeShone Kizer at No. 52 overall
The Cleveland Browns finally took their quarterback at No. 52 overall by drafting Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer. He figures to be in a competition to start.
A quarterback! With the No. 52 overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns have selected DeShone Kizer from Notre Dame.
The selection of Kizer comes after the Browns elected to pass on top quarterbacks in the first round Thursday, such as Mitch Trubisky and Deshaun Watson.
Kizer was highly regarded to be a top prospect entering the 2016 season. However, Notre Dame and Kizer struggled to find consistency allowing his draft stock to fall.
In 2016, Kizer completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 2,925 yards for 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Kizer has the body of prototypical NFL quarterback measuring in at 6-foot-4, 233 pounds. He has a strong arm and can make throws to all levels to the field. He is an above average athlete as he can extend plays with his legs. However, Kizer will have to fine tune his decision-making at the next level.
Drafted in the second round, Kizer won’t have the pressure to come in and start right away with Cody Kessler and Brock Osweiler in place. With only 23 college starts, Kizer needs to sit and learn the game while working on making reads and accuracy. With so few college starts, Kizer is raw at the position. He has a lot to learn to play the advanced NFL quarterback position.
An NFL scout had his to say about the signal caller, as written is his NFL.com draft profile:
"“I could tell you he should have gone back to school, but he also has some things you can work with. We need to find out how he will handle the board when our coaches put him through different reads. That’s going to be huge for him. He’s a bright kid, but I’m not sure he sees what he needs to see all time.”"
Under the offensive leadership of Hue Jackson, the 21-year-old Kizer is entering a great situation to develop and learn. He has the ideal size, arm strength that makes it easy to compare him to fellow AFC North quarterbacks.

If he sits for half the season or all the season, Jackson and the front office made this selection with hopes to groom a young quarterback with a huge ceiling with little risk in the second round.
