The Cleveland Browns and the rest of the NFL have hit the quiet portion of the league calendar. Let’s hope the next six weeks remain quiet.

It has been said that the NFL is a year round business.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year, it is all NFL all the time.

Well, except for the next six weeks, that is.

We have officially entered the one true dark period of the league calendar, a six-week break where there are no draft picks to dissect, no Organized Team Activities to ponder, no minicamps where every quarterback throw is judged.

The Browns and the rest of the league’s teams are off now until training camps open at the end of July. It is also a time for worry.

In high school a friend’s mom would always urge us to be home by midnight because after the clock struck 12 it was “trouble time.”

That is where we are right now as head coaches, front office executives and fans worry because with so much free time players can get into trouble.

The Browns are no different, of course, but the current roster seems far less likely to lead off the evening news in the coming weeks than some of its predecessors.

The next few weeks may be boring, but this is the time of year when boring is OK.
