Running back DeAngelo Williams is a free agent, but he made it clear he has no intention of hearing any offer from the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns appear to be set at the running back position for the 2017 season, but one free agent made it clear he won’t even take calls from the team if something changed.

A recent ESPN.com article explains how DeAngelo Williams made it clear he won’t sign with the Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys or Carolina Panthers.

From the article:

"Williams crossed off the Browns and Jaguars because he wants to go “where winning is something that’s expected, not something that people get excited about.”“[The Browns] don’t have a history of winning,” Williams said. “I’m not sure about all of the championships they won before the Super Bowl was the Super Bowl, but in my lifetime, I haven’t seen them have a winning season.”"

First, the Browns likely weren’t even interested in Williams in the first place. Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson are set in place as the top two backs, while Matthew Dayes figures to make the roster as another option.

Fans are expecting Crowell to have a breakout season, so adding the 34-year-old Williams wouldn’t make too much sense right now.

Even if the Browns were interested, there is nothing wrong with Williams making his feelings toward the team known. He is a veteran near the end of his career and wants to go to a winning team. There is certainly nothing wrong with that.

He didn’t necessarily have to come out and dog the Browns in a national interview, but so it goes with the current state of the Browns. The team needs to start winning before respect is earned back.

The Browns have already brought in some veteran talent this offseason, showing fans the environment isn’t too toxic to attract outside talent. Williams is entitled to his opinion but if he doesn’t want to play here, not too many fans will bat an eye.
