Daily Dawg Tags: Still earning back national respect
NFL free agents may be hesitant to join the Cleveland Browns, putting the team in a position to begin earning back national respect in 2017.
Cleveland Browns fans are a group of individuals filled with an immense amount of pride. People outside the city can poke fun at the franchise all they want, but Browns fans are convinced things will turn around eventually.
The difficult part with the current cycle of losing is that it makes it hard to attract free agents, especially veterans. Those who have never won a Super Bowl often hope to reach that pinnacle before retirement, making it hard to convince them to join a Browns team that is in a stage of totally rebuilding the foundation of the team.
That is why it wasn’t surprising when DeAngelo Williams recently made it known he has no desire to join the Browns for the 2017 season. It may have seemed unnecessary to make that known if the team had no interest in him, but he is entitled to making his feelings known.
The NFL Draft is where this team must be built, and that process started a year ago and continued this April. A few years of successful drafts and this team will rise out of the basement of the NFL and emerge as a legitimate contender.
We take a look at that and more in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.
