Cleveland Browns fans want consistency at the quarterback position, but it won’t stop some from placing bets on how many players will start in 2017.

Watching great NFL teams play is an odd experience for Cleveland Browns fans.

Watch a Green Bay Packers game in Week 1 or Week 16, and Aaron Rodgers will be there slinging touchdowns all over the field. But watching the Browns play in any given week may lead to fans seeing a new face lining up under center.

The Browns have had at least three quarterbacks start a game in each of the last four seasons, although more have come in and actually played, just without starting. This streak is a national punchline and has created an interesting betting line.

Isn’t that crazy? What team other than the Browns would have underdog odds to start less than three quarterbacks in a season. Yet while these lines may frustrate Browns fans, it would be hard to take the under after seeing the team play in the recent past.

The line of total quarterbacks appearing in a game will hopefully result in the under, especially considering the improved offensive line.

Last year’s number of five, (six when including Terrelle Pryor), included below-average talents lining up behind a bad line. Not a great combination.

Personally, I’d take the under on total players to appear but the over on the starters. I would like to think the Browns will have a player start all 16 games this season, but history doesn’t seem to suggest that is possible. And if the losses are piling up, each of the three main competitors may get their shot to prove themselves.

There will be a day when the Browns join the rest of the league in sticking with one guy all year, and it is possible that happens in 2017. It just wouldn’t be the smart bet until there is some proof on the field that change is actually happening after these optimistic offseasons.
