The Cleveland Browns play the New York Giants on national television next Monday and will feature Brock Osweiler as the starting quarterback.

Brock Osweiler was not exactly advertised as a big acquisition when the Cleveland Browns acquired him in a trade that included draft picks, yet he seems to be set to be the starting quarterback to begin the season.

Osweiler began the preseason opener, and is back in the same role for Monday’s game against the New York Giants.

Mary Kay Cabot explained just that in a rather confusing tweet.

The notable thing about the tweet is that DeShone Kizer is now in the second spot, likely meaning Cody Kessler is out of the starting competition, although that became clear with his lack of action in last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

We published an article earlier detailing how Joe Thomas believes Osweiler will start the season opener, and even though Hue Jackson won’t come out and say it, that is the direction this competition seems to be heading.

The ideal scenario would be for Osweiler to have some success early and hold down the job all season, although a likely scenario is that Osweiler struggles and Kizer gets put in before the season is halfway over.

The only way Osweiler won’t start the season opener is if he just regresses exponentially over the next three games, but even then Kizer is still too raw to be the starter.

And with Kessler now in the third spot, get ready to cheer on Brock Osweiler as your starting quarterback, just the way you thought you would when last season ended.
