The Cleveland Browns will feature DeShone Kizer as the starting quarterback this Saturday, all but ending this year’s open quarterback competition.

Cleveland Browns fans woke up on Wednesday morning to the news that DeShone Kizer is set to start this Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hue Jackson didn’t name Kizer the Week 1 starter, but he would have to either forget how to throw a football or go to Las Vegas in disguise to lose the starting job.

This is not a shocking development based on how he has been playing, but it is interesting to see Jackson move on from Brock Osweiler so quickly after the veteran started the first two preseason games for the Browns. Now that Kizer is starting this next game, the competition is all but over.

Seeing another rookie quarterback on the field isn’t ideal, but it has become clear he gives the team the best chance to win in 2017. That doesn’t mean many wins are coming, but at least the best talent will be out there under center.

It is tough to say what is next for Osweiler. He could easily be cut or traded before the season starts, which seemed to be the plan as soon as he was traded to Cleveland. Cutting him wouldn’t make much sense given his salary, but anything is possible with this Browns team.

We take a look at this news and more in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.
