The Cleveland Browns cut Brock Osweiler but added another quarterback, leaving four on the roster heading into Week 1 this Sunday.

The Cleveland Browns didn’t surprise many people by cutting Brock Osweiler this past weekend, but it was surprising to see the team add another quarterback right away.

The Browns signed Josh Woodrum, who spent his preseason with the Baltimore Ravens, giving the team four quarterbacks less than a week before the season begins.

Hue Jackson did say that this situation likely won’t last long, but it is interesting to see Sashi Brown make such a move. Woodrum is only in his second year in the NFL, meaning adding him and cutting either Cody Kessler or Kevin Hogan wouldn’t add much experience to the group.

It would also involve a new quarterback learning the system, although he would come in as the third-string guy if he makes the Week 1 roster.

This constant search for the best available talent is all part of the rebuilding process, but it becomes tricky when dealing with quarterbacks. However, the goal is to have DeShone Kizer start all 16 games so it shouldn’t matter who is behind him on the depth chart, at least in theory.

The situation will continue to unfold throughout the week, so let’s take a look at this story and more from around the NFL in today’s edition of the Daily Dawg Tags.
