The Cleveland Browns lost yet again, but some of our staff saw a surge up the standings in Week 2 of the DPD pick’em pool.

The Cleveland Browns may be 0-2, but that doesn’t mean all of us here at Dawg Pound Daily had a bad week. Welcome back to your weekly dose of the Dawg Pound Daily pick ’em pool.

We started off the week with a garbage pile matchup on Thursday Night Football featuring the Houston Texans and Deshaun Watson‘s first NFL start against the lowly Cincinnati Bengals. This game was split down the middle by our group, with four picking Cincy, four picking Houston, and five not making a pick at all…

One of those five was Roger Cohen, who aside from not picking the very forgettable Thursday night matchup had a perfect week ! Being new to pick ’em pools I’m not sure how common they will be this season but hats off to Roger for being the first.

Here’s a look at how thinks shook out after Week 2 concluded:

Most Improved

After throwing caution to the wind when picking Indianapolis last week, Johnathan bounced back in a big way this week in making the biggest jump in terms of number of picks correct last week to this week with six more correct picks made.

Honorable mention: It’s a good thing Shane forgot to pick teams last week because had he picked, he’d be right in the thick of the standings after 11 correct picks this week from zero the week before.

Congratulations to these two on their solid weeks.

Wall of Shame

Guys, guys, guys… Missing a Thursday night pick is understandable due to the nature of the week, but missing an entire week of picks? How are you all going to compete for the massive, super-expensive trophy that is given to the winner?

Okay maybe there isn’t a trophy, but to avoid the walk of atonement that is the Wall of Shame section of these recaps, make sure you make your picks.

This week’s Wall of Shame contestants include two previous recap all-stars in Matt Stevenson and Jared Wackerly, with Craig Foster bringing in the rear with a year to date total equal to the number of Browns playoff appearances in the last ten years.

Everyone on the same page

With each week comes matchups that present heavy favorites. Last week I mentioned the Jets, Bears, Colts, and 49ers as teams no one may choose to win. As predicted, no one picked those teams this week.

All participants unanimously chose SEA over SF, OAK over NYJ, TB over CHI, NE over NO, and ARI over IND.

Arizona over Indy was my matchup lock of the week on the podcast, and had it not been for Browns legend Phil Dawson I would have looked like a big fat dummy and Johnathan would have looked like an all-star had he chose the Colts again this week. Fortunately for the both of us, we both chose Arizona.

Biggest Upset

There were a few matchups on the docket this week that could have gone either way. Atlanta vs. Green Bay was a battle of high-powered offenses, and Cleveland vs. Baltimore were the two matchups split 6-5 that really mixed things up from a standings perspective.

The biggest upsets I saw was in the picks for the Miami/LA Chargers and the Dallas/Denver game.

Luckily, Roger happens to be clairvoyant as he, Brandon Onda and Derek Bryner were the only three to pick Denver in that blowout game. Roger, Steven and myself were the only three people to have faith in Jay Cutler and the Miami Dolphins despite the terrible, terrible Hail Mary attempt Cutler threw out-of-bounds. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. It’s hilarious.

With that being said, be sure to make your picks next week to avoid being on the Wall of Shame and I will report back next week at this time to let you know how Week 3 played out.

See you next week!
