Cleveland Browns fans may not want to watch an 0-14 team during the holidays, but there is a local player to watch in this Sunday’s game.

Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears marks the one-year anniversary of the last time the Cleveland Browns won a regular season football game. Will the Christmas Eve magic return in 2017?

I don’t think so, but that is what I thought last year before the Browns pulled out a miraculous victory against the then San Diego Chargers. It was only one win, but it was better than going 0-16.

Another awful season may have some fans choosing to spend time with family instead of watching the game this Sunday, but there is a specific reason for fans in Northeast Ohio to tune in, even if the Browns do poorly.

Mitchell Trubisky, the Mentor, Ohio native, will once again be starting at quarterback for the Bears, looking to take down his hometown team.

I am also from Mentor and it is nice to see a local kid make it as far as Trubisky has. People from outside the area may be confused when seeing someone wearing a Trubisky jersey in Browns territory, but he is an easy player to root for.

Some Browns fans, myself included, wanted him in the draft, but the Bears made the power play by trading up to get him at No. 2 overall. And while the young quarterback has not been a star this season, he has at least done enough to lead his team to a few victories. Meanwhile, the Browns don’t have a single NFL quarterback on the roster that has won as a starter in the NFL.

So if you’re a diehard Browns fan or simply someone who needs an excuse to get out of family time for three hours, at least there is a local kid to watch this Sunday. Fans may also be curious to see if the Browns fall to 0-15, which likely means 0-16 lies ahead due to the Week 17 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The thought of 0-16 is painful, but at least local fans can tune in this Sunday and see someone from Northeast Ohio have some success in the NFL, even if it is with another team.
