Browns coaches, staff grab a seat at the Senior Bowl
By Thomas Moore
The Cleveland Browns coaches and staff will have plenty to watch for as practices get underway for the annual Senior Bowl.
The Cleveland Browns coaching staff may not be working the sidelines this week at the annual Senior Bowl game, but there is still plenty for the coaches and scouts to keep an eye on as the players practice through Thursday.
The players are in Mobile, Ala., preparing for Saturday’s game and the rosters have some familiar names on them, including Auburn safety Tray Matthews, Western Kentucky quarterback Mike White, Alabama center Bradley Bozeman, Ohio State defensive end Tyquan Lewis, and Oklahoma defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo.
Of course, with the Browns needing a quarterback everyone will be watching Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, who are on the North Team roster coached by the Denver Broncos coaching staff, and White, a member of the South Team roster coached by the Houston Texans coaching staff.

Tuesday’s big news was the weigh-in for players (a full list of the results can be found at The Sporing News), and Allen checked in at 6-foot-5 with a hand size of 10.125 inches, according to NFL.com. Hand size is consider important, at least according to some teams, especially those who play in colder climates. (No names, please.)
Allen also made some minor headlines by saying that he wants to be the quarterback who finally fixes the ongoing situation with the Browns:
It wouldn’t be the Senior Bowl without a made-up quarterback controversy and Tuesday was no exception. A year after Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson made waves because he skipped the game while recovering from winning the national championship, Mayfield joined the fake controversy list be missing the weigh-in while dealing with a family matter.
In news that is far more important regarding Baker, while he will participate in practice this week, he will likely not play in Saturday’s game, his agent, Jack Mills, told Alex Marvez of The Sporting News.
With a dozen draft picks at their disposal there is a pretty good chance that a player or two that general manager John Dorsey sees this week will hear his name called at some point during draft weekend. After all, last year the Browns saw defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, kicker Zane Gonzalez and running back Matthew Dayes up close and ultimately selected them in the draft.
