Round 2 Pick 35: Chukwuma Okorafor, Western Michigan, OT

The Cleveland Browns may very well need a future tackle to replace Joe Thomas. After being one of the iron men in the NFL for years, Thomas is considering life after football after ending 2017 on the injured reserve.

The belief is he’ll return for another season, which would allow them to groom someone like Chukwuma Okorafor out of Western Michigan to step in. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound tackle had a different journey to the NFL, which was highlighted by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

"“Okorafor, who moved with his family from Botswana to the United States in December of 2010, tried out as a kicker and punter a few months later as a freshman at Detroit Mumford. The position seemed like a natural fit for someone who grew up playing soccer in his native Nigeria and Botswana, even if his big frame was tailor-made for a different position.” — Birkett, Detroit Free Press"

According to Birkett, Okorafor hadn’t even watched football until moving to the states and gradually became a star player in high school and now at Western Michigan. His upside is immense, and learning from someone like Thomas will only help him reach his ceiling.
