The Cleveland Browns made several trades on Friday. The one for Damarious Randall could help them at either cornerback or free safety

The Cleveland Browns were intent making headlines on Friday. After dealing for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry, they then went for a new signal caller in Tyrod Taylor. After making the move to get him from the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland then decided to strengthen their defensive backfield by acquiring Green Bay Packers defensive back Damarious Randall in exchange for quarterback DeShone Kizer, which was reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

Cleveland obviously was done with their second round pick out of Notre Dame after getting Taylor. As for Randall, the first-round pick out of Arizona State has been a playmaker since entering the league and has 10 interceptions in three seasons. He’s spent time at both free safety and cornerback for Green Bay and can help the Browns no matter which position they decide to play him at.

Where he fits best though would ideally be free safety. That’s his more natural position and the one he played for the Sun Devils. Entering the 2015 NFL Draft, he was the top-rated free safety prospect, but Green Bay decided to move him to cornerback where he’s spent most of his career.

The good thing about Randall though is he doesn’t handcuff the team to one position. Adding him to the roster doesn’t tip their hand should they have been looking at a couple players in the draft, like possibly Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward or Alabama free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Instead, the Browns can go with the best player available, and adjust their players accordingly.

One thing is for sure, Cleveland got better after adding these veterans to their team.
