4. Josh Mauro, DT, Arizona Cardinals

This one is not necessarily a big-name player as Josh Mauro just became available after the Arizona Cardinals released him this week. Mauro is a tall defensive tackle that has provided some decent play as a rotational player for much of his career. Although he did start 13 games as recently as 2016 for the Cards and had a decent campaign.

Mauro recorded 32 tackles that season — with 24 of them being solo take downs. He started seven more games in 2017 for Arizona, and had 22 more tackles. He apparently wasn’t a fit for new head coach Steve Wilks and was thus released.

The former Stanford defensive lineman was undrafted and originally signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He then was picked up by the Cards after not making the final roster cuts.

In Cleveland, Mauro wouldn’t be competing for a starting job. Instead what he would do is provide some depth as an interior defender along with Larry Ogunjobi and Caleb Brantley. He could also come in rather affordably given the fact that he’s not a household name.

Those kinds of signings never gain much attention, but could be a big plus in roster building.
