Take the hint, Josh Rosen is not a Cleveland Browns draft option

Despite making it clear he wants no part of the Cleveland Browns franchise, some still think Josh Rosen could be on the way. He won’t be.

Geez, take the hint, people, Josh Rosen is not a Cleveland Browns draft option.

To Rosen’s credit, the UCLA superstar quarterback and contender for the Browns’ first round number one draft pick has been trying real hard not to be a jerk about it.

But the unarguably talented lad has made it pretty obvious on more than one occasion that he wants nothing to do with Cleveland’s rebounding football franchise.

Remember back in December when Adam Schefter of ESPN quoted Rosen as saying:

"“he would prefer to play for the Giants over the Browns and would be hesitant to declare for next year’s NFL draft if he knew that Cleveland was going to take him with the No. 1 overall pick.” — Rosen, via Adam Schefter of ESPN"

Ouch.

And bear in mind that in the same month ESPN.com reported Rosen as saying:

"“I’d rather be a lower pick at the right team than a higher at the wrong team.” — Rosen via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN"

Pow, that  was a big ol’ truth-fist right to the Browns’ franchise-quarterback-needing kisser.

Could he make himself any clearer without achieving the D-Bag tag?

Do the hopeful Rosenettes that keep popping up everywhere online not recall those unsubtle Rosen rebuffs? Are they so desperate that they don’t care that this fragile young California man is just not that into you, the ‘you’ being the team that consistently plays smash-mouth football in sub-zero weather?

Please, all you silly Browns fans still wanting Rosen,  face the truth – you’re embarrassing yourselves.

Social clues don’t get much more obvious than the ones he’s scattered throughout the media. He’s trying to make it clear to this particular NFL suitor that, no offense, the Browns are just not his type.

Nothing personal, mind you, think of it this way: he’s more of an Ocean man than a Lake lover, more a coastal fella than a cornfield guy. To him the Browns are a PC, whereas he’s more of a Mac.

Now even his old UCLA coach Jim Mora has started dropping similar big hints.

NBCSports.com’s Mike Florio reports that:

"Jim Mora suggested that former USC quarterback Sam Darnold, not former UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen, would be a better choice for the Browns “because of fit.”"

And everyone jumped all over him for saying it.

Read that article. Mora basically explains that he’s not trying to be mean, he’s just trying to save everybody who thinks Rosen’s a good fit for the Browns a lot of grief and disappointment.

Ever been on a date with someone who can’t stand you? It’s awkward and unproductive and the Browns, desperate and still kinda 1-31 ugly, can’t afford to make that same kind of silly mistake by drafting Rosen.

Sam Darnold, on the other hand, would be a perfect Browns quarterback fit.

He’s not a guy who’s avoiding the tough-to-love Browns. In fact remember what he said at his impressive pro day when the weather started getting rough?

He was quoted by USA Today’s Browns Wire as saying:

"“Perfect, I don’t care if it rains, I’m going to Cleveland.” — Darnold via Jeff Risdon of USA Today"

Ooh la la.

Darnold, unlike Rosen, wouldn’t mind dancing with the ugly team and he’s made it clear that he’s willing to sit back a year and watch whatever starter warm the team up. Imagine that, a Browns drafted quarterback who gets to work on his footwork, his throwing technique and his unhealthy tendency to turn over the ball before he’s thrust to the center of the dance floor.

Previous Browns starting quarterback and interception champion DeShone Kizer sure could have used a little bit of that.

Rosen’s former coach at UCLA Mora claims that sitting would bother him.

"“He needs to be challenged intellectually so he doesn’t get bored,” Mora said. “…Josh has a lot of interests in life. If you can hold his concentration level and focus only on football for a few years, he will set the world on fire. ” — via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk"

Um, that’s a pretty huge ‘IF’ right there.

Along with ‘IF’ Rosen’s concussion problems don’t come back to haunt him and ‘IF’ he’ll be as effective in the brutally cold snow.

Sorry, but the Browns can’t afford so many big ‘ifs’ like that. If they could, Baker ‘IF he was taller’ Mayfield would be a more solid contender. But the Browns can’t afford to waste their number one draft pick on players like Rosen or Mayfield that come with such obvious ‘ifs’ to worry about.

Mora’s analysis is absolutely correct – Darnold is not only a legitimate number one draft pick, he’s the better fit for what the rebuilding 2018 Cleveland Browns need from their franchise quarterback of the future.

And let’s toss Mr. Darnold a few humble gratitudes for being willing and perfectly able to do this particular slow dance with the not-so-pretty Browns.
