A look at how fans on Twitter reacted to the news that the Cleveland Browns selected Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward with the No. 4 pick in the draft
With the fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft, just three picks after shocking the league with the selection of quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Cleveland Browns selected cornerback Denzel Ward. The former Ohio State Buckeye’s selection got plenty of attention on Twitter and around the league.
Ward was an explosive playmaker who was all over the field on defense for the Buckeyes. With 24 passes defended in his two seasons as a starter, he was consistent in making plays and showing he’s a force to be reckoned with. The pick fills an immediate hole on the roster, especially with the team trading cornerback Jason McCourty this offseason.
Reaction to the Browns selecting Ward over other players on the board shows once again that general manager John Dorsey is not playing games. He knows the holes in his roster, and is drafting talent that can compete on day one and help improve this team all around.
The #Browns sticks at No. 4 and take the top CB on the board — #OSU CB Denzel Ward. Their target all along. Easy call and higher than most teams.

Oh and we still have BBC and Howard Wilson.
Of course, not everyone was on board with the selection of the cornerback. Some would have enjoyed selecting a pass rusher to pair with defensive end Myles Garrett. Others would have preferred another defensive back not named Ward.

Ward is a good cornerback, and while he doesn’t have many interceptions (2) in his college career, he still has a nose for the football and is a sure tackler.

He isn’t on the same level as former teammate and current New Orleans cornerback Marshon Lattimore, but he is still a solid selection. He fills a hole that the team had, and has a ton of upside. Welcome to Cleveland, Denzel. Let’s get to work and turn this franchise around!
