A collection of Twitter reactions to the Cleveland Browns selection of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield at No. 1 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft
The clock struck 8:05 PM eastern time, and the Cleveland Browns took nearly eight minutes once on the clock to submit their pick, before finally selecting Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the first overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Here are some of the immediate reactions from across Twitter upon the announcement of the pick.
After nearly all offseason with the Browns being linked to quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Josh Allen, news started breaking about 48 hours before the draft that the team was looking into selecting the former Oklahoma Sooner gunslinger with their first overall pick.
Many were frowning at the pick, still citing his size and off-field issues as reason to not select him.
General Manager John Dorsey and his staff obviously wanted to make a splash, just like they have all offseason. From the trading for quarterback Tyrod Taylor and Jarvis Landry, to getting rid of underperforming players like wide receiver Kenny Britt, he has shown he is ready to do whatever it takes to turn the Cleveland Browns franchise around.
There was tons of chatter on Twitter about the surprising selection of Baker with the first overall pick.

Some people decided to go completely negative on the selection, bashing the Browns and Mayfield.
Baker Mayfield will flame out. Cleveland went Cleveland.

Should’ve drafted Saquon and gotten Baker anyway at 4.
Regardless what all the Twitter “experts” think, Cleveland got their guy. Dorsey will entrust head coach Hue Jackson and his offensive staff to help build up Mayfield.
He’s still raw enough to need to learn for a bit, and having Tyrod Taylor there as the starter will afford them that luxury. But fear not, Browns fans. Baker Mayfield is one bad dude. He’s got the moxie and is a gritty competitor that is willing to take on the challenge that is the Cleveland Browns.
