Cleveland Browns: The sixteen-million-dollar man is Nick Chubb
By Joel W. Cade
A year ago, the Cleveland Browns traded for Brock Osweiller. In that trade they received Houston’s second round pick. Tonight, that pick became Nick Chubb.
The sixteen-million-dollar man has arrived. Last year the Cleveland Browns traded with Houston Texans to take Brock Osweiller off their hands. Not only did the Browns pick up the sixteen million dollars guaranteed on Osweiller’s contract, but they also received a second-round pick as well.
The trade itself was highly criticized for making the NBA style trade. Former general manager Bill Polian even called the trade illegal because it was getting a pick for taking on all the guaranteed money.
As they season wore on, the Houston Texans got progressively worse. By the take the season ended, the second round pick they acquired for essentially sixteen million dollars became the No. 35 pick in the draft.
Tonight, the Browns turned that pick into Georgia’s Nick Chubb.

Chubb was a breakout star at Georgia before blowing out his knee. But like Lee Majors, they were able to repair him and make him better than ever. Not only did he come back from the knee injury. But he came back better than ever.
Chubb is an ideal power back. His game is to hit the whole and run through people. Unlike previous running backs in Cleveland, Chubb has excellent balance and excellent vision. He can find wholes in both the zone and power schemes. He played in a traditional pro-style offense.
He will arrive in Cleveland a finished product with explosiveness. His issues will be his medical history with his knees.
He was not a receiving threat for Georgia as that role went to Sony Michel. But with Duke Johnson in the backfield, the Browns will not need him to be a receiving threat.
Nick Chubb is a first and second down back with Johnson playing as the third down back. Duke Johnson is good enough to catch passes and make critical runs on third down. Nick Chubb has the vision, speed, agility and power to keep the Browns out of third down.
Nick Chubb is 16 million dollars well spent.
