The Cleveland Browns change rally slogans every time they change a head coach. But enough with the stolen slogans! Show some creativity.

The Cleveland Browns change slogans often. Every time a new head coach rolls in, a new slogan becomes the rallying cry for the team. But each coach that has been brought in effectively steals or adapts the slogan from their former team.

Enough already! Think of something new!

Mike Pettine started this trend. Remember him? He was the guy who the Haslam’s hired after their “exhaustive” search led to nobody. Pettine interviewed for the job as a way of getting interview experience for future head coaching positions. Little did he know that his opportunity for getting experience led to his being hired as the Browns head coach.

With Pettine came the famous Baltimore Ravens slogan “Play like a Raven”. Except this was twisted into “Play like a Brown”. To be fair, nobody knew what that really meant.

But he must have succeeded in convincing everyone to do so. During his tenure, the offensive coordinator begged his way out of town. Then general manager Ray Farmer was suspended for communicating with the sidelines. The team had the highest paid secondary in the league and still played horribly.

It was the aftermath of an aging roster with a quarterback who would rather play in Las Vegas than First Energy Field that led to the hiring of Sashi Brown and his scorched earth policy of roster building. With Sashi on board, the Haslams did another “exhaustive” search and landed former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator and current Browns head coach Hue Jackson.

Hue Jackson focused on changing the culture before he began hacking slogans. However, after his first year, the hacking began. For rookie mini-camp the past two years, the Browns rolled out the slogan “Earn your stripes”.

This slogan is a popular slogan for the Cincinnati Bengals. As a Bengal is a type of tiger, which actually has stripes, it makes sense for them to ask their players to “earn”  their stripes. Plus their helmets have cool looking tiger stripes on it.

Jackson hacked this slogan for the Browns. He creatively made sure the white and brown stripes did not get put on the rookies helmets until the “earned” them. This lead to the #EarnYourStripes garbage pumped out by the Browns official twitter page.

Enough of this crap already! Why do the Browns think their fans want to hear or deal with recycled slogans designed to pump up the crowd. Nobody is buying “Play like a Brown” or “Earn your stripes”. If Browns fans wanted to have those slogans, they would root for different teams.

Why not make a new or creative slogan for the team? Why do the Browns always have to use recycled garbage from other teams. It is not authentic and it shows.

So, just for fun, let’s explore some options for Browns teams slogans. Having taken to twitter with my complaint, I received a few good options for the Browns to consider.

The first response was to simply not suck.

Although all Browns fans would agree that they should not suck. I am not sure it will be a good rally cry. “Don’t suck on 3! 1,2,3 Don’t Suck” just doesn’t seem right. It is the right sentiment but may not rally the team together for a victory.

Trying to be more organic, it was a good idea to explore internal options. Gregg Williams is the master of sayings designed to rally the troops.

“Come get some!” would be a great slogan. It shows edge and attitude. Unfortunately, it only seemed to represent Gregg Williams and the defensive side of the ball. Thus, a new direction was needed.

Finally, I stumbled on it. I finally found a slogan original to the Browns that could work. “Fight like a Dawg!”

What do you think? Can we come up with a new slogan for the Browns since they are too inept to think of a new one for themselves?

Next: Baker backup? He isn’t having that

Any suggestions?
