The Cleveland Browns moved former Tennessee safety and undrafted free agent Evan Berry to wide receiver, and the move could be fun to watch

There was a lot of excitement during the 2018 NFL Draft, so it’s forgivable if you missed a familiar name landing on the Cleveland Browns roster following the draft. That name was Evan Berry, who played safety for Tennessee.

If that name rings a bell, it’s because he’s the little brother of Eric Berry, the three-time All-Pro safety for the Kansas City Chiefs.

While Evan may have never developed as a deep safety like his brother, he did have his share of highlights during his time with the Volunteers.

Where the younger Berry really made his mark, was as a return man. In four seasons, he ran back 1,820 yards with four touchdowns — he also ran back his only career pick 100-yards for a score. He was simply electric with the ball in his hands.

Berry wasn’t as stellar on defense however, which is why it may not be surprising to see the Browns trying to change where he plays. Berry has been playing wide receiver at the team’s rookie minicamp according to Patrick Brown of Go Vols 247 Sports.

It’s an interesting thing to try as getting the ball to a guy like Berry in space doesn’t seem like a bad idea. He has a knack for making people miss him and a threat to score whenever he touches the rock.

Expectations of course should be tempered. Considering how Tennessee struggled in recent seasons, there could be a reason why they never tinkered with such a move. Still, the idea seems like it’s worth a shot and the young man could be better on offense in the pros than he would at safety.

At least if nothing else, Berry will get a chance to prove he can be helpful on kickoffs for the Browns. They can use a spark wherever they can get it.
