Tip 4: Avoid non-football related activities that may put you in a negative light.

This is a vague enough piece of advice to be meaningless so let me explain. You are professional football player. You play football better than everyone else in the world and you get compensated handsomely for it. Your athletic gifts may have gotten you special considerations academically while in high school or college. I am not accusing anyone. But you know what I am saying. (wink, wink)

So, stick to football. Do not try to sound intelligent about subjects that you have no knowledge of. If you are still confused about this, see the point above about Kryrie Irving believing the world is flat.

People watching Hard Knocks will judge your intelligence on those views instead of what you have spent your entire life working on. You want people to judge you on what you do best. Not on what you think you know when you really don’t.

For example, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff does not know where the sun rises or sets. Although watching shows like “A you smarter than a 5th grader” might be fun. It is not fun to be the one exposed in front of millions of football fans.

The worst part about this is that fans watching it. It may be funny to you and your teammates. But there are millions of highly educated people who watch this and wonder “how do people who who do not know where the sun rises or sets make so much money?”. The results are disgruntled fans who work very hard 40 hours a week. Seeing you makes them feel bad that all of their hard work is meaningless. Football is an escape from the daily grind. Don’t do things that remind the fans just how bad their life is.

You worked hard to be a football player. Our fans have worked hard to get where they are in life. Talking about astronomy like this often backfires and makes the fans angry at you, football and an economic system that rewards athletes for playing a kids game for a king’s ransom.

Best to just stick with football, it is why people are watching Hard Knocks anyway. If you follow these words of advice, you will avoid the pitfalls of players, coaches and teams of the past when appearing on Hard Knocks. The best way to build your brand is to excel on the football field. Focus on that and not the camera.

As a fan, I have one last piece of advice. HBO’s Hard Knocks is good because players fail to observe the previously mentioned tips.

Tip 5: Disregard the previous tips.

Please go out and make a fool of yourself. It is very entertaining. You have already made of fool of yourself on the field for the past two seasons. I cannot wait to see how much of a fool you are off it.
