The Cleveland Browns could use some help at the defensive tackle position and NFL Mocks thinks calling a divisional rival could be the way to go

After trading away defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the Patriots this offseason, the Cleveland Browns suddenly find themselves thin at the position.

Trevon Coley and Larry Ogunjobi are the likely starters along the interior of the defensive line with players like Caleb Brantley in the mix as well.

Behind them there’s also Jamie Meder who was solid in 2016 and Trenton Thompson, an undrafted free agent out of the University of Georgia who has a real shot at making the 53-man roster.

Some don’t think there’s enough talent there and that the team should make a move. One suggested move is to call a divisional rival and try to take a player from them who has yet to live up to expectations.

George Stockburger of NFL Mocks thinks that Carl Davis of the Baltimore Ravens could find better success with the Browns than he’s had with the team that selected him in third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Iowa.

"“Davis’ combination of size, power, and quickness have not yet translated to the NFL game, but the potential has always been there for him to be a beast on the interior. Perhaps moving to a four-man front will revive his career.” — Stockburger, NFL Mocks"

So far in his career Davis has just 30 tackles with a career high of 19 in 2017. He missed the entire 2016 season with an ankle injury.

Of course it’s not often that teams trade within their division, although the Browns nearly did that last year when they had come to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals on a deal for quarterback A.J. McCarron.

That trade was botched at the deadline, but there would be no paperwork mishaps here as there’s plenty of time to get a deal done.

It also isn’t as vital a position so it’s possible the Ravens would listen — provided of course that the Browns staff agrees with NFL Mocks that Davis is a fit.
